Multicultural Dementia
Centre Based Day Respite Service
For people with dementia from a culturally and linguistically diverse background.
The Dementia Day Respite Service is for culturally and linguistically diverse people who have
been diagnosed with mild to moderate dementia, and who have challenging behaviours.
The respite day offers:
- Short day respite in two locations (both locations are dementia secure)
- Activities based on individual interests and special needs
- A support service for clients and their carers
Support:
We provide counselling support for carers and we can negotiate other
physical support for clients, such as attention to personal care and/or
housekeeping with other community services. An interpreting facility is
available on request although many of our workers are bilingual.
Referrals
Referrals to Dementia Day Respite can be made by a local doctor, the Aged Care Assessment
Team or Community Health Nurses. Any carers in the community caring for a person with a
dementing illness are invited to contact the coordinator.

The respite day is staffed by an Enrolled Nurse, a Personal Care Assistant, a Diversional Therapist and Assistant, and volunteers
Transport:
Transport is provided for clients coming to dementia day respite.
Cost:
There is a nominal attendance fee to cover transport, morning tea
and lunch.
