In Home Respite


What are the aims of the service?:
    - To give the carer a break
    - To strengthen the relationship between a frail older person or a person with a disability and
      their carers
    - To allow them to remain living in their own homes
    - To provide a flexible service
    - To provide a culturally and linguistically sensitive service

Who can access the service?:
Carers of frail older people and people with a disability from a culturally and linguistically diverse background who live in the Wollongong or Shellharbour local government areas.

Who can refer to the service?:
Anyone can refer to the service, including clients themselves.

When does the service operate?:
The service operates on Mondays and Thursdays from 9am to 5pm.

What are the fees? :
A contribution of $2 per hour will be charged, however no client will be disadvantaged due to their inability to pay.

What will the service provide?:
    - A respite worker will look after the carer's loved one so that the carer can go out and have a
     break
    - The worker will take over the carer's normal duties during that respite time
    - The service will enable the carer to pursue some of their own interests
    - The worker will provide emotional support, companionship and culturally appropriate
     one-on-one activities to the care recipient
